Canterno Lake

In the heart of Lazio there is a lake which, in addition to showing itself in all its beauty, hides more than one mystery: the ghost lake of Canterno. It is the largest of the karst lakes of Lazio: it has an area of 0.6 sq km, a perimeter of 4.9 km and a maximum depth of 25 meters. The stretch of water of Ciociaria bathes four municipalities: Ferentino, Fumone, Fiuggi and Trivigliano. Despite being close to busy provincial roads, Lake Canterno has managed to keep all its atmosphere intact. Oasis of the Ernici

The ernici wildlife oasis is one of the naturalistic sites in the province of Frosinone and in the Lazio region. Initially called the Oasis of the Roe deer, it housed only roe deer, then with the arrival of other animals, today it has become an educational farm. In fact, you can also admire wild boars, ducks, horses, geese, cows, donkeys, ponies but above all fallow deer, which are the joy of the eyes of the children who come here on a school trip, and who in addition to the visit, carry out various workshops for the care of vegetable garden, gardening, mowing, cooking and popular games.

San Benedetto lake

The small lake of San Benedetto, into which the waterfall of the Aniene river plunges, is one of the most beautiful and evocative places in the Simbruini Mountains, a classic summer destination for visitors looking for refreshment, in an absolutely unique place. The small body of water, enclosed by a high amphitheater of limestone rocks, is located downstream of the Benedictine monastery from which it takes its name, can be reached with a short and pleasant walk in the direction of a secret paradise, away from everything and everyone. The itinerary starts from the large square, taking the secondary asphalted road that descends on the right past the ruins of Nero's villa, proceeding from Subiaco in the direction of the Benedictine and Jenne monasteries. Recently, thanks to the work of the Park staff, the access path has been restored (called Tourist Path ST2)

Collepardo Caves

The Collepardo Cave, also visited by the Queen of Italy Margherita di Savoia in 1904, fascinates with the majestic vaults rich in multiform stalactites, which often connect to the stalactites that rise towards them, in a very slow and still active process (on average with a growth that varies from a minimum of 1 mm every 20 years to 1 mm every 3 years, depending on the air temperature and the intensity of the dripping, i.e. the speed of water dripping). The spectacle of the stalactites and stalagmites is of unparalleled charm: due to the singularity of the shapes that echo human and animal figures, they were called "Grotte dei Bambocci".

Well of Antullo

About 1 km from the town of Collepardo, on the slopes of the La Monna and Rotonaria mountains, in the complex of the Ernici is a grandiose chasm of karst origin, created following the sinking of the vault of a cave. The depth of the cavity is -43 m, where between large boulders collapsed from the vault the rainwater disappears in a tunnel, impracticable even for speleologists. The overhanging walls have numerous stalactites, while the bottom is covered by a rich and luxuriant vegetation, with trees up to 20 meters high. According to an ancient tradition and until a few decades ago, shepherds lowered their sheep, left to graze for months. The chasm inspired curious legends: one of them tells that in the place where the well is located, there was once a threshing floor where some disbelieving peasants, not honoring the feast of Our Lady of the Assumption, wanted to beat the wheat also on this day sacred. To punish them, divine providence made the threshing floor sink, giving life to the enormous cavity.

Campocatino

Between the Ernici and Cantarici mountains, Campocatino is the ski resort of the municipality of Guarcino, in the province of Frosinone, from which it is only 39 kilometers away. From the Municipality of Guarcino go up to Campocatino on a winding road for 18 km. The Campocatino massif is a plateau at about 1800 m of altitude surrounded by the peaks of the Ernici Mountains that reach and exceed 2000 meters of altitude with the possibility of hiking and from which you can enjoy the panorama of the lower Lazio up to the Tyrrhenian Sea, including the Islands Pontine. The place, reachable with a long climb, is home to a ski resort with 1 chairlift and 4 ski lifts, making it very popular in winter and summer by the inhabitants of Frosinone, as well as being one of the snowiest places in the Apennines exposed directly to the humid currents. westerners.

Campo Staffi

In the vicinity of Filettino, which is connected to the ski fields by a shuttle service, there is one of the most famous ski resorts in Lazio: Campo Staffi. In fact, it has six ski lifts, a three-seater chairlift, a two-seater chairlift, 3 ski lifts and a ropeway, for an hourly capacity of 8000 people / hour. The slopes for alpine skiing are suitable for all levels: a beginner slope (a real school field), 5 easy blue slopes, four red slopes, (the panoramic slope boasts a length of 3.5 km of uninterrupted descent ); and 2 black runs for experts (the Vallone winds along 2 km). Campo Staffi looks like an undulating valley that extends between Monte Cotento (2014 m), Monte Viperella and Colle Staffi, where splendid hiking itineraries for ski mountaineering or ski touring and several off-piste winding. For lovers of cross-country skiing there are three rings for Nordic skiing, of which the longest is 20 kilometers.

The Terme di Fiuggi

Fiuggi is one of the most important and ancient spas in Europe, located a few kilometers from Rome, in the center of an area rich in natural, historical and artistic beauties and a place of enological and gastronomic excellence. The distinctive element of the territory lies in its composition of the water whose basin is located at the foot of the Ernici Mountains, in the Fiuggi basin which in prehistoric times was a lake. Today the water filtering through the volcanic blanket is enriched with beneficial substances that purify the body thanks to its purifying and beneficial properties. Those of Fiuggi belongs to the category of cold mineral waters that flow at a source temperature of 12.4 ° C, used both in spas and for bottling.
